Hi.

So far I've tried these two for mouth propping:

1)https://www.net32.com/ec/softprop-mouth-prop-medium-green-cradles-edentulous-d-121747?utm_source=email&utm_medium=email&utm_campaignrderConfirm8&utm_content=prodUrl&utm_medium=email&utm_source=transactional&utm_campaign=your-order%40net32.com

But I wasn't allowed to purchase an ejector (I just needed a little post or something).  That probably would have held the prop better, but maybe not.

Anyway, struggling with that one now.  And, I would have to hold on to it with the tips of a couple of fingers.

2) Then I thought this would help protect my finger if I wanted to insert it to keep his mouth open.  But the rubber is flexible and my finger would probably get severed anyway.  Clamp shut and ouch!

And now here's this>> https://www.amazon.com/Open-Wide®-Mouth-Rest-Pack/dp/B00805NCG6/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=mouth+props&qid=1557542374&s=gateway&sr=8-4

Tried it a little while ago.  Good thing my father has an appetite because I think he thinks it's a spoon heading towards him and he opens his mouth. Insert, turn...and brush with tooth brush using my other hand.  The lady in the photo is behind the patient, but I brush and hold the mouth rest in front of him.  So far I like the product.

Let's see how long this lasts.

Oh!  And it comes with four mouth rests.  It's not too expensive and I assume they'll last....

Try standing behind him with a mirror in front if you can--it gives you more control and helps with your own balance. Maybe start out in front and get around back after you start brushing. And please, don't put your fingers in his mouth. You're going to need those fingers longer than he'll need his teeth, and teeth can be replaced. Fingers can't.

Thx RobOT. Yes, no more inserting my finger.  One time I had a feel for that and never again!

Despite a few minor challenges, for example, when he uses his tongue to push out the tool or tries to remove anything out of or away from his mouth with his hands, I like the tool.  I just have to work around the minor challenges.

It's the best I can use and it's more safe.  So far, pretty ok.  I just need to make sure I don't shove the tool too far in.  Use with care for comfort.

It's still work, but it's easier brushing his teeth with the help of this mouth insert...
