Paranoia - thinking everyone is trying to kill her

My mother is in a facility. I know she is in good care. I have visited at all different times of the day/week and have never been concerned for her safety. She keeps insisting they (other residents/caregivers) are trying to kill her. Thinks there is a place outside the door where they have things set up for torture. At least this is what I can understand from what she is vaguely saying. What has been your experience? Did antipsychotic drugs help your loved one?

Exact same scenario for my wife in her facility. We initially approached this with some sleep medication (Trazadone) to see if we could get her to sleep through the night with no delusions. Not as effective as hoped so trying Risperdal now in a low dose to see if that works. Its better but not perfect, may up the Risperdal in a week or so. Need to find that right balance of the chemical cocktail.

My grandmother had these type of thoughts also.

Have her tested for a UTI.  My mother “goes there” when she has one.
