Hi, Mimi.  I have an iMac. I can just drag the emoticon from Myriam's post into this one ...  :-O surprise which is what I just did ... or I can use my cursor to highlight the emoticon, then copy (Command C), and then paste (Command V) ... which is what I did here:  :-? thinking

LISA,  How's the new IPad going? For me, it's like my brain...a new day every day! LOL!

I just went to the App Store and paid $.99 for animated smileys. I couldn't figure out how to even do that.

But...we have them built into our ipad2!  oops, They are just small.

Go to Settings ---then "General"

---then "Keyboard" --- select "International"

---choose "add keyboard" ---

--- then scroll down until you find "Emoji" --- select Emoji

Now on your keyboard you will have a new symbol to the left of the space

Bar.  That round symbol is your Emoji tab.  It's the best I can do.

GeeGee,

So far I've been too foggy to be successful.

I may just go to the Istore to see if they can help.

Thanks.

Peace and Hope,

Lisa

You haven't heard, Lisa?  We're supposed to download our own smileys as a means of brain stimulation!

:)) laughing(LOL)  Just kidding!

I'm still trying to figure out how Steve does his emoticons.  You can almost eliminate words with his animations. =)) rolling on the floor (rolling on the floor

Iris,

Do you mean I have to go to a particular web site to down load these faces?

The how do I use them when I am posting on the boards?

I know I sound stupid.

Hi, Lisa.

Go up to the first post on this thread and highlight all the smiley faces.

Then right click and click "copy".

Then go to your regular email (e.g. Yahoo) and create an email addressed to you.

In the body of the email paste the smiley faces by right clicking, then clicking on "paste".

So whenever you want to use a smiley face, just go back to your email and right click on the smiley face you want to copy.

Then go back to the post you're drafting and click the spot where you want the smiley face to appear, and right click to paste the smiley face.

Lisa, I copy and paste an individual smiley.

example::-? thinking (thinking)

Steps:  1.  highlight a smiley and right click

               2.  click "copy"

                  3.  locate where you want to paste the smiley

                   4.  right click "paste"

I find this easier than opening up an email but then you have to come back to this site every time you want a smiley.

P.S.  What I said about Admin making this brain stimulation for us was a joke.

 I hope this makes sense.

Why can't admin make these available like they used to be?????

It is becoming more difficult to do the computer without all these extra problems.

I'm sorry to be bitter.

I haven't figured out how to copy and paste.  Perhaps when my sister returns she can help me.

Love to all,

Lisa

It'll be all right, Lisa.  You know how to copy and paste, you just forgot.  It will come back to you when your sister refreshes your memory.

One time I forgot how to put my car into Reverse in order to back out of a parking spot.  I had to call my mechanic on my cell phone to get him to tell me how to do it!  Of course, once he told me, it  came back to me.

Dementia patients should automatically be given cognitive rehabilitation therapy in order to help us RETAIN the skills we already have.  Many of us can function at home fine if we just have a little bit of help!

We would also be able to function on these boards with a bit of help.  The old boards were no problem for us.  When the Design Team developed these new boards, they were not thinking of us.

If you want to make a smiley face, do this:

: and ) together

to wink, do this:

; and ) together

to make an unhappy face, do this:

: and ( together

to make a cool face, do this:

- and 8 and ) together

-

That's all I know.
