Lisa Genova, Ph.D., will be on the Today Show live some time between 8-9 this Friday 1/20, talking about early onset Alzheimer's. She will also be on the Dr. Oz show later that day. She wrote "Still Alice" and other books, and apparently is releasing a documentary film titled "To Not Fade Away".

Hi Myriam.
Sharp eyes! Thanks for the heads up.
Lisa spoke to the Early Stage Group at the DC Forum several years ago. Lisa Genova had interviewed members of the Early Stage Advisory Group the year previous to the year Lisa and I served. And that is why her book is so realistic.
So realistic that I had to tell myself over and over: this is fiction.
Some of our group who were Early Onset, were not able to continue reading the book. It hit too close to their own experience.
I notice my own autographed copy is missing. I wonder who I lent it to.
Well worth reading. If you begin and it also hits too close to home, just stop.

Here is a link for the video of the first segment of Dr. Oz's show about Alzheimer's that Lisa Genova was a guest on.

I searched for Dr. Lisa Genova's segment on NBC Today Show. I could not find anything about her.

I've spent the past 90 minutes trying to post this.
Dr. Lisa Genova's segment did not air on The Today Show on Friday. Hopefully, it will air sometime this week. This is what she posted on her FB page:
"The segment about early onset Alzheimer's & To Not Fade Away on tomorrow's Today Show was cancelled (I think it was bumped by President Obama!). I'm sooo bummed, but they're hoping to reschedule for Mon or Wed of next week. Cross your fingers and stay tuned!"

Dr. Lisa Genova had a nice segment last Thursday on FOX about Treating Alzheimer's. Here is a link to that show:

Thanks Iris,
It is well worth watching. An interesting explanation of the risk factors involved in getting the disease.
Keep us posted on her activities.

Actually, Myriam was the person who first learned Lisa Genova was going to be on TV.

Thank you Myriam & Iris. I caught Lisa Genova on Dr. Oz; but thought I just tuned in too late Friday for the Today show and missed her appearance there.
However,
Good team work. I went to her website and signed up for email notice of her upcoming appearances. I can keep everyone apprised.

I had to go back ad watch again.
I had forgotten she was a neuro scientist.
She has a wonderful capacity to simplify. Ex. her use of the scale imagery.
She also simplified clinical studies into a two part goal: make the drug effective enough to do the job (this has happened with several drugs) and at the same time, safe for all. (this is where several have failed.
(A cousin of mine commented on one failed drug that actually reversed the damage. She would have preferred her mother take the drug and die because of that, than go years in a semi vegatative state. Which she eventually did.)
I do wish they would also show what the PET scans of those of us with the disease who are still able to function on the boards look like. And also show actual clips of us with the disease functioning in society (even though the inevitable is always there. We just hope to die of other things first.
I've been to lectures where they show PET scans from no disease to full blown end stage. I'd like to see each slide of a person combined with the real shot of that individual and what they can do.

Mimi, I agree wholeheartedly with your ideas of PET scans of our earlier stage brains while we are actively engaged here on the boards. So many opportunities to explore such are available. It always comes down to money and funding.
We should talk more about what we can do. You have my mind thinking. Now the trick is to not forget any great ideas that I think of. LOL!
That's why I have to keep notes.

It would have to be one of the research institutions such as U. of Pittsburg that has access to a PET scan with the Pittsburg compound.
