Has anyone here tried a life/viatical settlement? This is where you can sell your life insurance policy for cash in order to pay for care and expenses

I am trying to do that now. What percentage of the policy will they pay?

I have early onset and finances and cost of care is a major hardship 

Omg, I had not heard anything about viaticals in years, at least 10.....but back when they were in the news, it was not for being good things. They were widely considered as a barely-legal (at best) scam, that took advantage of the sickest people.

It got so bad many states passed laws to try to “clean up” viaticals. Then they seemed to disappear. IIRC, viaticals sounded great in general application, but when it got down to individual need, it hardly ever worked/paid out as expected, to the detriment of sick person. There may be some body it worked for, but by and large it was a huge huge problem area.

I am mostly just surprised to be hearing about them again. I thought they’d gone away.
