I've been in this fight for almost a decade, and in ONE day, I got more help and understanding and advice...than I've had throughout this entire time. I was a fool to believe this sickness wouldn't progress further. I was a fool to think I could handle it on my own. Like the tide, it keeps coming. But at least I have all you good people who probably have suffered or are suffering just as I am. I'm sorry. I don't like what it's doing to me. Don't like what it's done to my mom. HEY! This was supposed to be an upbeat, joyful THANK YOU post! Do not like the direction I was headed.... You are all a part of my new daily routine. So, thank you all and fight the good fight.

It's clear that you love your mom and want to do your absolute best for her. The learning curve with dementia can be awfully hard. So much of what we are expected to do, say, and how to behave around our LO to avoid their awful behaviors can really go against our grain. Just know that it will take some real self-control over your own emotions and I don't think any of us can claim we've always done things exactly right. Hard as we try, there will be times when all your buttons are pushed to the breaking point. Best advice - leave the room for a few minutes to breathe and calm yourself. Don't engage in a big guilt trip over what you may have said when you lose it. The short-term memory loss pretty much assures that our LO won't really remember our melt-down and harsh words within a very short time. We always get another chance to make things right.

Hi FloydS - yes, all of this is hard!

I don't think you are foolish to think 'this' won't get worse. It was probably wishful thinking...  It is hard to see our LO slipping right in front of us.

Floydsnax, you/we are definitely not alone! I try to exercise every day on a treadmill or stationary bike.  This is the first place I come to when starting my workout.  If I’m not here it means I wasn’t able to get the workout in, double negative for me.

So glad you’ve found the benefits of these wise and supportive people.  It helps me so much too.

Thanks for the kind words and support. I've been at that point 1 1/2 times already. Where I thought I was pushed as far as I could go and call the ambulance... but I didn't. I couldn't. Though I believe somewhere that the time will come. Just recently, I proposed a plan to my sister and adult nieces that they take my mom every other weekend which I think would save me and the three of them Veto'd my proposal. I was shocked. But I move on... trying.

You're so right. I can't believe it took me so long to find you guys. Everything is still the same, but I have a different feel about it...If that makes any sense. Dark turning to light, kinda. Enjoy your workout! Thanks
