Dear Amy Joy, it was very wise of you to see your doctor. My heart goes out to you; I am sorry to hear you may possibly need surgery; let us know how things are going and what you decide.
It is also very wise for you to begin looking for a good supportive place to live as in Memory Care. This will be very helpful for you both now and in the future. You will be safe, secure and many people actually thrive in such a setting and even make friends.
I think it sounds as though this needs to be done as soon as possible.
If you have someone to be with you in this planning, it would be excellent for support and being able to have someone help you to ask the right questions of possible settings you feel would be a good fit.
Also, Amy Joy; I do not know if you have a Durable Power of Attorney for Healhcare which names a person that you would want to make decisions for your healthcare IF you were not able to do so. This is something that all of us should have. I have one with someone named should something happen to me and I could not speak for myself. Kind of like a little safety net.
If you need helpful input for doing a Power of Attorney, if you do not know a lawyer, perhaps the 24 Hour Helpline at the Alzheimer's Association could help locate a lawyer to do the Power of Attorney OR perhaps in your state you can do one without needing an attorney. The Helpline number is: (800) 272-3900.
If you call the Helpline ask to be transferred to a CARE CONSULTANT. There is no cost for this service. Care Consultants are Social Workers who specialize in dementia. They can help with so much and they are there to listen and support. You can call as much as you wish.
Let us know how you are, we will be thinking of you.
With a hug being sent your way,
J.

Amy Joy, you must allow time for your body to heal. Are you able to eat yet, or are you on a restricted diet?
What type of mental help has been recommended for you?
Do you have a place to go after the nursing home?

Hello Amy Joy; it is good to hear from you. It sounds as though you are healing well after surgery.
How are you feeling? I am doing fine.
I know you prefer to go home, but see that you are having some more tests.
It must also be good to know there are nice nurses and others to be helpful, that is great.
It must have been very nice to be outside and to see some trees. Nature can be lovely.
What state do you live in? I am in California.
Do you have a spouse or other relatives or friends that can visit and be helpful if you ask?
I have a husband and four grownup children, but the children do not live close by.
It has been a cold winter but spring is soon to come; then more happy leafy trees and flowers and blue skies. Before too long we will see sunshine more and more.
Thank you for writing and to letting us know how you are. We are thinking of you.
J.
